Digging
There is some story or idea about a man who for a long time digs to get out of his prison cell, only to find that he escaped into a different prison cell. Anyone remember the source of this?
Emes is the Yiddish word for truth. Truth is hard to find.

gamzoo, i don't think this is what I was thinking of - in Monte Cristo, he purposefully digs into the other guy's cell. Here I am talking about someone who thinks he is going to escape and instead winds up in a different prison.

e-kvetcher, In Count of Monte Cristo, Faria did not purposely dig there. it was a mistake. He was trying to escape but went in the wrong direction and ended up in Edmond's cell.

You're right, Aryeh - it's been three decades since I read the book - I guess the memory is not as good as it used to be.
But I think I was thinking of a different work. A bit more philosophically oriented... Unless I imagined the whole thing.
