The danger of search engines

Something I've noticed lately that really makes me very worried. My cell phone YouTube search seems to filter out curse words. I don't know why. So that often times when I search for certain videos they don't show up. Now, I happen to know that they are there because of my browser search, but this to me brings up a very troubling situation.

Search engines have become so popular that if we seek something on the Internet and we don't find it, we assume it's not there. Now, despite Google's assurances otherwise, I don't automatically assume that Google is not evil.

How easy is it to manipulate world opinion by just tweaking search results? It's quite a scary thought. The ease of Internet search has allowed us to cede our control to these corporations. But in the end, this is becoming an Orwellian reality...

Scary.

You might have a "safe search" option set to "on".

Fascinating insight! I really enjoyed the last paragraph (I didn't count "Scary." as a paragraph :P)
