Polanski - WTF?

So now a slew of famous moviemakers are protesting RP's arrest? WTF? What am I missing?

This dude drugged and raped a 13 year old girl, pleaded guilty and then fled the country. he has been on the lam for 30+ years.

They finally arrest this guy and the filmmakers are upset?

' The filmmakers objected to his being arrested en route to the film festival, which held a tribute to him this year.

"It seems inadmissible to them that an international cultural event, paying homage to one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, is used by the police to apprehend him," said the petition'

WHAT?

Well, it's not so simple. The case was mishandled, and the girl herself says the media & DA did much more damage than Polanski ever did. Plus the plea bargain was that he would complete time served. He was an idiot for fleeing. I don't think that his status should be any kind of heter for what he did, but I do have sympathy for him because his pregnant wife was gruesomely murdered by the Mansons.

Oh and he was in the Shoah and his mother was killed in Auschwitz.

"Since Sharon's death, and despite appearances to the contrary, my enjoyment of life has been incomplete. In moments of unbearable personal tragedy some people find solace in religion. In my case the opposite happened. Any religious faith I had was shattered by Sharon's murder. It reinforced my faith in the absurd."

It is illegal to have sex with a thirteen year old girl.

No ifs, ands, or buts.

I sympathise with him for the gruesome death of his wife, and the death of his mother.

Nevertheless, it is illegal to have sex with a thirteen year old girl.

That she was tipsy, said no repeatedly, and pleaded with him not to commit all three acts, makes it even worse morally, though not legally.
It being illegal, you understand, to have sex with a thirteen year old girl.
Punkt.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the support he's getting from other film makers.
Not just Europeans, either.

Polanski furnished a controlled substance to a minor, committing a 'lewd or lascivious act' upon a child under 14, plus unlawful sexual intercourse, rape by use of drugs, perversion (oral copulation) and sodomy.

Why are Martin Scorcese, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Pedro Almodovar, Tilda Swinton and Monica Bellucci, Debra Winger, Harvey Weinstein, Whoopi Goldberg, and others saying that that is okay? In the real world, AND in Hollywood, what he did is illegal, immoral, and pretty damn' horrific.

Q: Did you resist at that time?

A: A little bit, but not really because . . .

Q: Because what?

A: Because I was afraid of him.

Yah, fear is as good a reason to go along with sex as any, uh huh. I wonder how him being "one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers" is germane.

Yeah, I don't know... It seems completely f*cked up. What this world needs is a good nuclear holocaust. Stick a fork in us, we're done.
