Conversion Mania

The story of the conversion of the Khazars is of course well known, but how many of you have heard of DHU NUWAS, ZUR'AH YUSUF IBN TUBAN AS'AD ABI KARIB, the Jewish convert king of Yemen?

I don't understand - how could he be a king and a convert? I thought that wasn't allowed ;)

Nope, never heard of him. But then, untill about a week ago, I had never heard of Aya Korem either.

Aya's song 'Yonatan Shapira' used to play on Israeli radio every 5 minutes about a year ago or so...

I did. He wasn't the King of all Yemen. But I heard of him. Actually I read of him.

Holy Moly! I checked the link and the Jewish Encyclopedia says that he was the King of Yemen. It must say that because he must have ruled a good part of what is today Yemen. That I did not know.
